I've shared earlier in the spring about my fifth-grade daughter enjoying two live interactive internet courses through True North Homeschool Academy. As soon as he saw how much fun his sister was having, my first grade son wanted to join in!
I was excited to find a class with a different online homeschool group, Huddleston Academy, that was tailored to his age so that he could also have the fun of learning online with others his own age.
The class my son joined was Beginner Map Skills. For four weeks, he joined other early elementary children remotely to learn about directions, following a map, and about different regions around the world.

The class my son joined was Beginner Map Skills. For four weeks, he joined other early elementary children remotely to learn about directions, following a map, and about different regions around the world.
This weekly class was taught by Michelle Huddleston, aka "Teacher Michelle", and it uses the Zoom online conferencing format. Students are given a Zoom link, through which they log in to the class. Once there, they can see the teacher and each other. They are also able to speak to each other via microphone (which can be muted by themselves or the teacher when necessary).
Each week, Teacher Michelle would cheerfully welcome the students and lead them in a variety of activities of instruction and practice with beginning geography skills. Some of this was through an interactive screen and some was via printables that she sent to parents in advance. My son learned about directions, how to read and follow a map, and about geographical features around the world.
Like my daughter with her classes this spring, my son was delighted at the chance to interact with new friends and a teacher that wasn't his mom! I was delighted to see him strive to excel and was interested to learn that he didn't know as much as I had assumed he did. That was a good thing for me to learn!
Huddleston Academy has a variety of live online classes, as well as self-paced (archived) courses and book clubs for different ages and for very reasonable prices. I plan to sign my son up for another course in the fall and I highly recommend them to you, too!
